Tableau data sources are dashboard assets, similar to visualization models, native to Tableau.

Data sources are Dashboard Assets, similar to visualization models, native to Tableau.
Home
Data sources are quite similar to the one of tables and can be found under Dashboards in the left navigation.
Fields
- Name: name of the field (contains the view name)
- Description (from Tableau)
- Role and Type: Data source fields are either "dimensions" or "measures" and nature of the field (for example, string, integer, etc.)

Details
At the right, the Details menu summarizes key attributes of the selected Data sources. It is visible from all tabs.
- Certified: Admins can mark a dashboard as certified to indicate documentation has been reviewed
- Deprecated: Admins can mark a dashboard as deprecated to prevent users from using it
- Favorites: Users can mark Data sources as favorites
- Data source button: link to the Data source
- Owners: a user can be assigned as the owner of a Data source
- Popularity: computed based on the number of views
- Description: short description of the Data sources
- Tags: tags can be used to describe Data sources. They are common for all users of a company.
- Source: always Tableau for a Data source
Documentation
The section is a rich text to enable custom formatting. To be able to see rich text options, simply select a portion of text.
Pinned Assets
You can link Data sources to other assets.
Lineage
A Data source can be related to:
- its parent tables (or even source table)
- its children workbooks

Comments
To easily collaborate and communicate between users, each Data source has a Comments section.
History
A log of changes is kept under the History tab.
