Ownership

Ownership is a very important data governance concept in Catalog. Each asset should have an owner responsible for its documentation and maintenance.

💡 The owner of an asset could be an individual or a team. 💡 Each asset can and should have one or more owners. 💡 Frequent users, editors and technical owners are very often good candidates to be owners of data and BI assets.

I have been assigned owner of an asset, what does it mean?​

As an owner, I am:

  • responsible ensuring the documentation of the asset is up to date
  • the one that can provide more information on the asset
  • notified about changes and request on the asset
  • the go to channel for any questions regarding the asset
